Characterized by synchronized counterpoint, shifting rhythms, and colorful harmonies, Pond features the saxophone ensemble both as a concerted group and as six soloists. Notated sections and structured improvisation alternate, mimicking the calmness and the disturbance of the pond. In the beginning, an alto saxophone paints a rippling effect. It then starts a chain reaction, developing ripples into waves, reflections, and layered currents of the water, spreading within the ensemble. This piece was originally written during a time when group rehearsals were not possible. Its structure ensures both synchronization and musicality for multitrack recording and remote performance.
