String Quartet
Death of Seneca (2020)
|
This piece was written for the Phoenix Art Museum on the painting, Death of Seneca, by Dutch painter Gerrit van Honthorst. It is a large oil painting (about 6 feet tall), warm-toned, giving out a calm and serene atmosphere while depicting a morbid scene - the death of the Roman stoic philosopher, Seneca. This piece was planned to be played in the reverberant gallery hall of the Phoenix Art Museum in front of the painting. The concert was suspended due to the global pandemic. A year after its completion, it was premiered at the Atlantic Music Festival at the Lorimer Chapel in Maine on July 24th, 2021.
